As a long time user of spectraphysics, labnet, integrators, and PC1000, it is time to update the hardware and software for 3 new systems. The OS/2 based software needs to be replaced with at the least a Windows 2000 platform to connect to our SQL server. The isocratic pumps need to be updated to gradient pumps, manual injector replaced with an autosampler, and the fixed wavelength detectors with a variable wavelength UV detector.
I do routine analysis of food & beverage QA/QC. There are times to provide further analysis for detecting other ingredients, so a more flexible setup would be beneficial for added routine analysis.
My question is, has anyone had any positive or negative comments concerning the hardware reliability of the Thermo Surveyor components such as the pump, detector, and autosampler. Also does Atlas provide good functionality, report setups and ease of use? How would the Surveyor / Atlas long term use compare to an Agilent 1100 series / Chemstation.
I would appreciate any response, thank you.

No experience w/ the Finnigan system. I know the Agilent very well. It will run rings around the Finnigan re: robustness and reliability...

i fully agree with anonnII, go for AGILENT if possible...though i have to say that my bad experinces with thermoquest..finnigan instruments were largely due to their service engineers...
If agilent fellows in your area have good service back up..nothing better.

Be aware that Chemstation is going away and is being replaced by Cerity.

Love the information shared in this forum!
But I also dislike the misinformation that can be found in this forum!
I work for Agilent Technologies!
Chemstation is not going away to be replaced by Cerity! For details check with your Agilent sales rep.
A good rule of thumb when looking for instrument information.. check with the vendors and/or check
the vendors' web sites.

It is too bad Agilent does not tell all of its employees what is going to happen. Check the web site for document 5988-9427EN, it describes what will happen to Chemstation in the near future (bye bye Chemstation) here is the abstract...
Agilent Technologies Networked Chromatography Data Systems for the Pharmaceutical Industry
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Abstract: This White Paper outlines Agilent's intention to converge its current chromatography data systems offering into one family of products for
pharmaceutical quality control, drug development and drug discovery, thereby helping pharmaceutical enterprises to speed up the development
of new products. This convergence encompasses the consolidation of the ChemStation Plus and Cerity for Pharmaceutical QA/QC products. Based
on this consolidation, the future will see Agilent extending its data system offering and bringing new products to market that will better support
laboratories’ specific workflow, more effectively fulfill compliance needs, and integrate easily into expanding IT infrastructures.
