Hi Folks,

I have some year end budget to spend. I would like to buy an evaporative light scattering detector (ELSD). I only know polymer lab and Waters make ELS detectors. I have no experience with either one of them. Would you please share your experience with me on any ELSD made by these two vendors? If you think there are other vendors makes good ELSD and please let me know. Please let me know if you work for any of these vendors so I will put your comments in perspective.

Hello Cindy,
I would ask you to consider the Alltech units.
I service the units on the east coast, and find a high level level of satisfaction among their customers.

I've had an Alltech ELSD 2000 for a few years. I don't use it every week, but it's performed fine.

I've been using both Alltech detector and Sedex detector from Sedere, in my opinion Sedex is slightly better. In combination with our columns (Primesep mixed mode columns from Allsep Technologies) we were able to replace ion chromatography completly. I did not try the latest Sedere detector.

I definitely recommend the Alltech ELSD's. I've had less problems and better customer service with their units.

Hi Cindy,

There have been extented discussions about the ELSD in this forum in the past. Have a look on the archieves. I would also advice you to ask for a demo of the different models.

I would personally advice you the Sedex ELSDs from Sedere (you may see the reasons in the archieve of this forum).

Thank you very much for sharing your experience with me on ELSD. Kostas, I found two good discussions on the ELSD vendor selections from last year's achives. This will help me narrow down the vendors to be considered. From last year's disscussion and also this discussion most people recommend the Alltech and Sedex ELSD. I think I will choose these two vendors for evalutions.

Thanks again for your help.

Cindy
