I am trying to find a method or info regarding the analysis of PAH's by HPLC in a petroleum reactor whose product is light gas oil. I am using an Agilent 1100 series HPLC with DAD detection. There are many reverse phase PAH columns available (C18) which use aqeous systems as mobile phases. Is it possible to get the non-polar gas oil into this system, or must I use a normal phase column with a non-polar mobile phase such as hexane or tetrahydrofuran? I do not have a heated column compartment so must run at ambient.

You need only small quantities for the injection, so reversed-phase is OK.
It appears as if your sample is soluble in THF. I would do that, and then dilute with THF/water until you are in the concentration range needed for HPLC.

I would suggest normal phase better, because i supose you need just group type composition. If you need detailed composition, reverse phase is better soluition.
