What means "Deconvolution" in chromatograpy?

In LC/MS (electrospray), it means determining molecular weight from a spectrum containing peaks at several charge states, as with proteins or other high molecular weight species.

In GC-MS it is the way the software finds individual peaks under "baseline noise" and finds other peaks under larger ones. This I believe is based on changes in ion ratios.

See www.leco.com for their Pegasus TOF-MS.
