Major New Jersey Pharmaceutical Company Seeking:
Sr. Research Investigator: Discovery Analytical Sciences/Candidate Optimization
Responsibilities:
The individual will be responsible for a small team of separations scientists (3-4 BS/MS/PhD) and will provide integrated analytical expertise and leadership in the area of physical and chemical characterization of pharmaceutical compounds to support medicinal chemistry in the discovery stage.
- Management of the workflow and priorities for the Separations and Physical Sciences laboratory in three main areas: 1) chiral and achiral chromatographic methods development using HPLC (and some SFC, GC and CE).
2) Purity analyses of intermediates and final products from Discovery Chemistry, and 3) Determination of physical properties including logP, pKa, elemental analysis, solubility, stability and optical spectroscopy measurements.
- Continuous improvement of laboratory processes through implementation of innovative new technologies.
- Collaboration with other groups, including NMR, MS and Bioanalytical in targeted problem solving and innovation with an emphasis on metabonomics and biofluid profiling.
- Collaboration with analytical scientists outside of DAS in areas of mutual interest such as enhanced solubility testing, parallel chromatography systems and vibrational circular dichroism
- Collaboration with scientists in Chemistry and Biology to ensure understanding of program needs and objectives.
Requirements:
- Ph.D. in analytical chemistry, physical chemistry or a related field and 5-7 years pharmaceutical industry experience, in a discovery setting.
- Demonstrated expertise in chromatography (HPLC), physical measurements and automation. Some spectroscopy (UV, FT-IR, MS) a plus
