I am new within the LC-MS/MS technique. Where can I find references to methods for protein precipitation? Best solvents and optimum solvent volumes?

J Chromatography had a nice review on LC-MS/MS in the past year or so. I don't remember the authors though. (Actually, I think they've had more than one review. Check out Elsevier's website)

Methanol, ethanol and acetonitrile are good solvents for protein precipitation (ratio plasma:solvent 1:5 to 1:10). The choice of the solvent is based on recovery and cleanliness of the extract. You just mix, centrifuge and transfer the supernatant to the injection vial (no need to evaporate or concentrate the extract)
