I am trying to identify an unknown peak that I found during a HPLC analysis of Sodium Benzoate NF. The peak elutes at a relative retention time of about 0.4 minutes and the concentration is about 0.09% of the Sodium Benzoate peak. Has anyone else seen something like this? If so, could you help me to identify this? Thanks

Don't know what your conditions or if you have already checked for it, but benzoic acid could be a possibility.

Thanks for the advise Russ. However we have already tried Benzoic Acid and found that the peak elutes at the same retention time as the Sodium Benzoate peak. The peak that we are looking for elutes much sooner than Sod. Benzoate.
