We're using an Antec-Leyden Intro EC detector with a Ag/
AgCl reference electrode. I'm wondering if anyone has
experience with how long this type of REF typically lasts?
The one we're currently using is about 2 months old and is
nearly unusable. We run at a relatively high voltage
(800mV) and our mobile phase consists of 50mM citrate/
acetate, pH 4.5, 20% Acetonitrile, and 9mM decanesulfonic
acid. We've noticed that BAS sells their Ag/AgCl electrodes
in packs of 3 for $116. Antec charges $450 for one....
Thanks for any input.
Shannon

What do you mean by unusable? This type of electode (the traditional salt bridge Ag/AgCl) can be cleaned and rebuilt, the cotton wool plug replaced, the internal solution replaced an the electrode itself polished. All electrode have a finite lifspan, I do agree that 2 months is on the very low side. I have had dealings with Antec-Leyden in the past and have found them to be very responsive to situations like this, talk to them sooner reather than later.
