Does anyone know where I could download a PDF manual for the RF-10AXL fluorescence detector. I've tried the shimadzu site and even rang them, they want to charge me £50 for it! Ouch!
I'm just after info on how to change and calibrate the lamp. (so If anyone has an RF-10AXL and can give me advice that would be very very helpful.
Thanks

To change the lamp, turn off (obviously) the detector module.
Remove the two mounting screws of the light source chamber on the top of the module.
Loosen the sliding plate screws and slide the plate so the inside of the light source chamber case can bee seen.
Insert the supplied screw driver in the hole for lamp fixing along the guide and turn in counterclockwise direction to loosen the lamp fixing screw. This is a plastic tube on the back of the module.
Loosen the knurled screw at the positive pole of the xenon lamp in the detector
Remove the old lamp.
Take the new xenon lamp out of the case and remove the knurled screws at the plus pole and the minus pole of the lamp.
Turn the plus pole of the Xenon lamp upward, and insert the lamp into the lamp holder with the gas filling protrusion (tip) of the lamp facing the opposite side of the beam-condensing mirror. The gas filling protrusion (tip) should be pointing to the front of the instrument. (Don’t touch the glass of the lamp, you will leave fingerprints, wash with ethanol if necessary)
Tighten the lamp mounting screw at the back of the instrument
Set the terminal of cable connected to the plus pole in the screw on the plus pole of the lamp. Tighten with a knurled screw.
Slide the plate closed, tighten screws, and remount the light source chamber.
When turning the instrument back on, it may be necessary to set the “Lamp” parameter to 1 to ignite the lamp. Zero is off, and 1 is on. Now is also a good time to reset the “Xe Time” parameter to zero by bringing up the “Xe Time” parameter and pressing zero, then enter. The number displayed here is the number of hours the lamp has been on.
As for adjustments, I’ve never done this, just used it as is. (ahh the life of a grad student) If it was working well before, it should still be working well after with a new lamp.
Good Luck

Thanks a lot for that! . It sounds pretty similar to changing the ones in our hitachi detectors (but didnt want to risk it incase I blew something up!)
Hope it doesnt need aligning! :)
Thanks again

Alignment is not so hard, look for the light at the first slit (only take off lampcover). Make the top of the bright triangle at the top of that slit, by turning the two screws at the back. At the same time you can see the energy rise (Ex=350 EM=250). The tap of the lamp has to be away from the back mirror. Important for S/N ratio result.
