Fairly new to GC, very basic problem & no colleagues who use GC:

Have a HP6890 GC with FID
Trying to fit a 1/16" alumina column onto the 1/4" male oven/FID fitting. 1/4":1/16" adaptors available but FID jet (0.018"id, unknown od)protrudes approx.0.5" below the bottom of the oven fitting & prevents adaptor attachment.

Has anyone had this problem & if so:

1: Where do I get longer adaptors, similar to HP capilliary adaptors but for a 1/16" column?
2: Any other adaptor types?
3: Alternatively shorter FID jets for HP GCs?

Any help much appreciated

How about just using a 1/4" ferrule with a 1/16" hole?

I take it you're not using a fused silica column but rather a metal column. If so, you need an adapter for your column -- available from HP. Call their tech support number (1-800-424-9759, I believe) and tell them what you're trying to do. They can probably give you the catalog number over the phone. If you have their parts and supplies catalog, you can probably look it up yourself.

We just use the adapter for 1/8" columns and reduce to 1/16". The column does not insert into the inlet that way, and there is the chance of some peak broadening I suppose, but it seems to work OK for us.
