All of us were students and "newbies" at one time, and part of our responsibility is to help you as we were helped. HOWEVER -- learning involves some work on your part. Before posting a basic question, I would suggest that you check out some of the links you can find here:

Specifically, go through the first three sections of the "Getting Started in HPLC" on-line course. A *lot* of your questions will be answered there.

Good point, well made Tom! Perhaps you could put this as a banner/link at the top of the forum page, since it will eventually get lost amongst the other messages.

Agreed - in other forums such posts/threads are 'made sticky' like a post it note - and they stay st or near the top of the list despite being older than other posts. Can this be done with this BB software Mods?
