Chromatography Forum: LC Archives: HPLC grade water and solvents, Best?

We are currently experiencing mobile phase interferences, and are thinking about testing the various components in the mobile phase.

We are trying to work out which brand/quality of solvents and water are the most pure (looking at price etc.) but are unsure.

Does anyone have any adice on what to buy, we need H2O, MeOH, MeCN and P-2-ol. We are currently using HPLC grade from Fisher.

It would be interesting also to hear if anyone has had any problems with any of the fisher solvents , so we can narrow down our quest! :)
Thanks

James

I use VWR - they have been very reliable over the years. Give them a try. They have many grades to suit most applications and good specification data.
I have had problems (quality & delivery) with some other suppliers!!

The two best sources I have used are JT Baker and Burdick&Jackson (B&J). I have never in 20 years have a bad bottle from either of these vendors and the majority of the work I have done was at lower wavelengths (<225 nm). They get my vote easily.

Mark

Great. Thanks guys. I've used VWR before, quite good in my opinion too. I've not heard of JT Baker and B&J before, but after checking out their websites, it looks like they are quite specialised. - Think I will give 'em a go.

JT Baker is great in my opinion, I used to work with it. But now I'm dealing with Merck products. I've never had a problem with them. Besides, Merck guarantee those that are HPLC grade are already filtered (0,22).

JT Baker is my first choice, and then Merck.
