When you're analysing creams and shampoos, do you always use SPE? I know this kind of extration can be very good, but is there any other way? (I'm just thinking about the life of the columns).
I'm worried in acquiring this kind of process (SPE), because of cost, dificulties in using it (not during the development step, but in everyday tests), i'm worried about the recovery, and so on.... As I work for a pharmaceutical industry the limits of aproval are very closed, especially during the stabilities tests, so my recovery must be almost 100%.
Thanks
Renata

Renata - we do OTC pharmaceutical consumer products, with validated cGMP/FDA test methods, and rarely use SPE. We keep it simple, and that works in most cases. What are your analytes of interest?

Hello Renata,
SPE is a good approach in creams and shampoos analysis. It can be a fast, economic and green method. Remember that the more difficult part in SPE is the choice of analytical performing (column + mobile phase, etc), but I believe that it You have, ok?!
Good Elutions!!

Nice to hear the bright side of SPE... heheh
People here are commonly against this method (because of the reasons I have mentioned above) Well, I don't have it, but I'll ask for some samples of SPE and try to develop some methods..
And Carlos Teixeira, I've checked your e-mail and noticed you're from Brazil.... nice to have a new colleague next to me!!! :o)
Thanks for answering back!!!!!
Renata

abubra@yahoo.com: feel free to ask me a question here, and I'll answer the best I can. To E-mail you directly, I may have to clear things with my company first (I'm in U.S., they "love" lawyer stuff here, confidentiality, trade secrets, etc.), so that wouldn't be quick !!!

Hi Renata,
Why don't you try automated dilutions and sample filtering. I worked with Neutrogena and Revlon on similar work. Recovery is always at close to 100% (98 - 102).
Check out http://www.chromsys.com/Products/Chromtech/prepbase.htm

I do the dilutions and sample filtering too. If needed internal standard may be used.

Renata,
I use durapore membrane filter 0.45 um. To protect my column I usually use guard column for these samples.
Does anybody have SPE method for ketoconazole shampoo? I want to reduce our analysis time.
