I have found that methanol is a ineffective solvent for t.l.c analysis of asprin could any one recomend a more effective one

I'm assuming from the question that you're a student, so I'll get you to answer your own question.
Why was methanol ineffective?
- asprin spot moved too fast (with the "solvent front)?
- aspirin spot moved too slow (stayed at the "origin")?
- aspirin spot streaked?
Also, what type of TLC plate (silica?, bonded reversed-phase?).
