I'm running 0.05% TFA in water and 0.05% TFA in ACN using a gradient run. I've been advised to store a generic 5-cm column in mobile phase due to high usage.
I would like to know are there any other ways to prolong the lifespan of the column and doesn't storing columns in acid shorten the lifespan instead?

Can you disclose which column (C18, C8, or CN) you are using? If you are using C18 column, storing in the mobile phase (say 0.05%TFA in H2O/0.05%TFA in CH3CN v/v 50/50)you specified should be OK.

Oopps, I'm using a C18 column.

What about the pH? Is it safe for the bonded phase? You may get shorter column-life by TFA.

0.05% TFA is not that harsh for C18 columns, especially with ACN present. If the column is used everyday, storing with mobile phase shouldn't have problem. However, I agree with syx-gf that it is always safer to store in ACN/H2O without TFA.
