HELP/ADVICE needed -- Analysis software recommendations

Chromatography Forum: LC Archives: HELP/ADVICE needed -- Analysis software recommendations

We're resurrecting an old HPLC system which used a
Waters Baseline 810 analysis software on a '386
PC. Unfortunetly, the hardware key has been
'misplaced', and we should probably get a Y2K
compliant software anyway.
What do people recommend for pretty basic analysis
(control of equipment is not necessary)? We'll be
using an ESA 5200 electrochemical detector (anyone
used their 501 HPLC Data System?).
If anyone can vote on the following, I'd be most
grateful:
Perkin-Elmer - Turbochrom and MassChrom
Waters - Millenium
H-P - ChemStation
ThermoQuest - ChromQuest
Varian - Varian Star
Dionex - PeakNet
Beckman - System Gold Nouveau, PeakPro
Shimadzu - Class-VP
SRI - Peak Simple
SSI - EZChrom Elite
Thermo LabSystems - Atlas
Hitachi - D-7000 HPLC Multi System Manager
Justice Labs - ChromPerfect
H&A Scientific - PC/Chrom

...any I missed?

TH

Dear Paul,

I do not think a straight vote is really going to provide you with the information you need. Each of the packages you listed offers a wide variety of features, many of which you may or may not want (or need). You should try to define the kind of features you would find desirable in your situation to help define the software that will be most suited to your needs and help you do your work.

Dear Paul,
I use Varian's Star package. Works just fine. But I dont think you need all the features. Especially I doubt that you want the hardware support/control available with it. I'd try to find a simple, CHEAP, acquisition/integration package.

Paul,
I use Beckman's Gold Nouveau to run my Beckman LC. It's nice for instrument control, and has a good deal of nice features (overlaying chromatograms is my favorite, but this is common now on many software packages). However, it *tends* to crash the system when running more than one application at a time.

Thank you to those of you who have responded so
far -- further comments from others would also be
appreciated. We wouldn't need the software to
control (we're using isocratic system), just
analysis really.

Thanks again to all responders

Ive found HP Chem Station, SSI - EZ ,and
Turbochrome
easy to pick up. Millenium is less intuitive

We have HP ChromStation, Waters Millenium, TSP Chromquest and Hitachi D-7000. The first best choice is Chromquest, than Millenium.Less convenient ChromStation, D-7000 is a last one from my list.

Hello Paul

PC/Chrom is a very cost effective package.

I suggest you give the guys at H&A Scientific a call.
