Trying to determine the % of SA after 60 days @ 45C.
I think my extraction using Methanol is creating Methyl
Salicylate which is lowering the % of SA that I would
expect.
Any thoughts ?
Thanks

When we formerly did salicylic acid assays, we extracted using methanol containing a few percent acetic acid. Chromatography was straightforward using water containing 4% acetic acid and either methanol or acetonitrile on RP-18. I don't think the methanol in the extraction solvent is causing your problem: if so, your 60 day ambient or 4C samples and your time zero samples would be affected the same way.

Usually fisher esterification favors strongly acidic anhydrous conditons, in fact in the presence of a greater concentration of water for an extended amount of time any methyl salicylate would be hydrolized to salicylic acid.

An easy test... Smell it..
