Dear All,
could any one tell me what advantages the ODS-2 over the conventional ODS column? And what technique is used in this kind of column.
Thank you very much.
michelle

Hi Michelle,

ODS-2 is just a reference to a 2nd generation ODS column. Typically, the ODS-2 has a lower carbon load than the ODS column, though I don't see why this could not vary from vendor to vendor (meaning some vendors advertise their ODS-2 has a higher carbon load than their ODS). The ODS-2 is used for the same applications as an ODS, i.e. reverse-phase.

By the way, just in case you were unsure, ODS means octadecyl silane, meaning C18.

Regards,
David

Thank you,David,
My collegue told me he improved his separation when analysis a wine using ODS-2, comparing with ODS (same brand). But we can not find any information about its technique except price and vendor. :)
We just want to kwon why the ODS-2 is better for his analysis.
Michelle

You may also check with the vendor or look at their catalogue. For example, the Waters catalogue gives a fair amount of details about the Waters Spherisorb ODS 1 and ODS 2 columns.
