I an attempt to prepare fluoromethyl benzyl alcohol from the corresponding methyl benzoate, a product homogeneous in silica gel TLC using a number of solvent systems was obtained. NMR and GCMS indicated it have two components--the required fluoromethyl and the other presumably chloromethyl derivative.
Can anyone suggest a good system for preparative normal phase chromatography of these two compounds. I realize this forum mainly addresses HPLC questions but my question is pertained to regular preparative column chromatography.

Thanks
