I am looking to upgrade my analog data collection to a computer interface ertc. I am looking for reccomendations for the simplest, easiest to configure and most economical chromatography software. I have experience with HP Chemstation, Varian Star, mostly. Any suggestions or comments are welcomed.

Try EZ-Chrom software. It's very similiar to the
HP Chemstation software, but easier to quantify
data in my opinion

I really like Waters Millennium because it can also control my HP GC.

I have both EZChrome and HP Chemstation. They are similar, but I like the way EZChrome handles reports. Easier to alter the format.

SRI Instrument's PeakSimple Software for GC and HPLC is only US$1295 for a single channel system.
See their website www.srigc.com.

Turbochrom Software from PerkinElmer is one of the best -very flexible and variable report options & control of various different models of GC is possible.

Perkin Elmer does have some nice features, but it does lack some essentials. Dual channel acquisition may be possible, but PE never made it possible to combine the dual into one report. Poor planning! They advised to go out and get some other software to combine the channels, like Blaise or Arnel. The Archiving feature is nice, but it has size limitations. If you choose too many files, it does nothing. Archiving becomes task intensive. As I work through the program, I do find alot of problems(bugs) that may get fixed in following releases, but don't hold your breath.

Check out NuGenesis Archive and NuGenesis Unify/Vision. Great archiving software and data management tools. Works with all windows based instruments--application independent. www.mantrasoft.com

Is there any software available that will match retention times and relative peak height to chromatograms in a library. We would like to build our own library of references and compare unknowns to those in the library.

Beware of promises of instrument control for HP GCs using Millennium software. My experience shows that deviations from single application hardware presents control and reliability problems. Of course, the fixes are in the next revision, next revision, next revision..............

if you find the software that is the simplest, easiest to configure and most economical chromatography software for everybody, let me now! before asking this question, tell al litle bit more about the set-up it is used in( one GC or 100 GC + 200 HPLC, a good IT-support in -house or not, FDA?, quantitation or identification etc, etc.) otherwise you will not get any answers you can use.

Dear Les

Sorry if you don't know Turbochrom please don't give wrong opinion.

Is possible combine report of both channels in Turbochrom 4 and TCWS.

TCWS have the same number of bugs than other softwares.

If you are an usser, you need training urgent.

Dear "chicken" Anonymous
Sorry you don't grasp the english language.
It may be possible to combine channels in 4 and WS but not CS.
Blaise software was a suggestion from the tech support people.
Bugs - try batch reprocessing a dual channel report... not possible! just ask tech support! The fix is in the next issue.
And lastly, I'd keep a lid on the training humor, you know not which you speak...

We've been using LabSystems' Atlas for about a year now with no problems, the users find it very user-friendly and it controls our HP GC's, LC's and our Waters Alliance. We replaced our Turbochrom system because PE have stopped development on it.

Just received announcement from PE about upgrade to "TotalChrom". They have only changed the name, not stopped development.

I do not work for PE, just want to make sure the record is set straight.

Thank's

Theresia:
SRI Instruments sells an add-on data acquisition package called Peaksimple that can attach to any brand of GC with a 0-10mV output (which most GCs have). The Peaksimple is available in a single channel or 4-channel system, so you can acquire data from either one or 4 detectors at once.

You will not be able to "control" the GC from this software/acquisition system; temperature programs etc. still have to be entered onto the GC, but data will be acquired for integration, manipulation, report writing etc by Peaksimple.

Contact me if you want more information on Peaksimple.

Hey Les,

I've heard you complain about TurboChrom. I've heard you attack anon. What about answering the original question. Or are you too spineless to offer your own opinion.

What is the easiest way to convert *.RUN files from the Varian Star program into ASCII or TXT formats?
