SRI Instruments has introduced a simple and relatively inexpensive system for coupling a GC to an HPLC ( about $13,000 for everything except the HPLC ). The syringe type autoinjector mounted on the GC is plumbed in series with the HPLC's mobile phase after it leaves the LC's UV detector.
When the UV detects a peak it triggers the GC auto-injector which injects a few microliters of the HPLC peak onto the GC column. Any GC column/detector can be used depending on the application. Peak purity confirmation, detection of non-UV responding analytes, selective detection, separation of co-eluted analytes, etc are possible applications. SRI is interested in other possible applications for the combo LC-GC system.
If you have an idea we would be grateful to hear of it.
