Does anyone have a method for the analysis of phenethyl alcohol and methylhydroxyglycinate in cosmetics. I do not care if they are LC, GC, or wet methods. Also, is there a good general book with suggested methods for the analysis of cosmetic compounds? You can reply to:

In my lab we assay for a very similar chemical, phenoxyethanol, using standard RP-18 columns with 65% acetonitrile and 35% water with 0.5% acetic acid with detector at 280 nm. This could also be done by GC on methyl silicone capillary column after dissolving in N,N-dimethylformamide and adding BSTFA to make trimethylsilyl derivative which is more stable and easier to quantitate than underivatized material.
