For external calibration in GC-FID, response factor (RF) or linear regression (LR) can be used. For RF way, response factors of a given component at different concs. should be fairly similar for good linearity. Whilst, the linear regression way should give corraltion coefficient r of about 0.99...for plot of signal vs conc.
Which is better in terms of accuracy and indication of linearity ? RF or LR?

Joe,
Check the message thread from March 30 above for RF vs. LR in terms of linearity. That question was for mass spec, but the same comments apply for FID.
The short answer is that response factor is a more rigorous test of linearity, but for a clean system that is under control both methods should give very similar results.
