| UV-CUTOFF
WAVELENGTH or UV-CUTOFF: the lowest wavelength setting on a UV
detector that can
be used with a particular solvent. The UV-cutoff for methanol is 207 nm, so the detector setting
must be above 207 nm to allow enough light to pass
through the flow cell and permit the detector to operate
properly. In principle, the UV cutoff is taken to be the
wavelength at which the absorbance = 1.0 AU in a cell
with an optical path length of 1 cm.
